Stereotypical gay interests

I don't care for Dame Edna. Does that mean I have to worry that my membership in the GMA (gay men of america) will be revoked? I mean, I went on suspension when I spoke out against Barbra (as a vocalist, not as an actor/director).

What if you're not a fan of musicals. (i.e.) Grease, Rent, etc, etc. I haven't seen them mostly because I don't have a interest in them, for me they rank right up there with watching sports. I couldn't even watch "My Fair Lady" without thoughts of killing myself. should I too fear the revoke of my GMA membership?

Gasp. You think you know a person, and then they tell you something like this. They have camps for people like you, where they try to show you the natural path, that musical theater is good.

I'll pray for you
Holy Sondheim, atonal be your refrains, by Sweeney Todd thy will be done in regionals as it is on broadway.
Help this poor soul cast out his demons, showing him the beauty that is American musical theater. For one so powerful as you, who was finally able to smite Cats into closing, this task should be easily accomplished. For this I prayer, Steve hear our prayer . . .
amen

That is absolute genius. Genius! (though not as genius as The Man himself, of course)

Oh lordy, speaking out against Barbra has almost gotten my membership in the Uppity Theatre Literati Society revoked more times than I can count.

Don't let the stereotypes make you change your opinion on something. (And frankly, despite the fact that it was supposed to be funny, Dame Edna's rendition of Losing My Mind was enough to make me sob and beg for someone, ANYONE else to sing it instead).

Losing My Mind has pretty strong memories for me (one of my closest friends at community college sang it for NATS and it stuck with me) and Dame Edna offends me with her horrible rendition. I do find it cute when she adds "possum" to a line, but her screeching wail-GRRR.

I very very much relate. Losing My Mind was actually one of the songs that got me into Sondheim in the first place. And then getting to see the revival I have to say that Judith Ivey's performance of it, while far from perfect, was one of the most moving things I've ever seen live.

Back in the day --
Has Dame Edna been around for a while? I somehow remember her from when I was young and thiking she was "real". I've only recently, within the last year or so, seen her again on television and "she" wasn't very funny at all. As far as Barbra goes...I've never really listened to her music other than the occassional snip it on the news from one of her billion dollar concerts, so I can't say. Actually, does not knowing much about Barbra's singing jeopardize MY membership? If I get on the Board, I'll be sure your spot in GMA is secure. ;)
